Welcome to Design and Technologies
The Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority ('ACARA') assists Teachers with respect to the two key learning areas: Digital Technologies and Design and Technology. Here is an overview provided by ACARA to assist with regards to What are Design and Technologies.
This Weebly Website is presented to provide a Teacher with an insight into the knowledge, understanding, processes and production skills which can be attained by the students' with respect to Design and Technologies. This resource is presented with the intended purpose of providing examples of resources in relation to the key learning areas of Design and Technologies. Accordingly, this resource will be sequenced into a 3 stage learning approach, Roles of people in Design and Technology occupations, 'Recycle, Renew, Reuse' - Recycling is Here to Stay and 'Creating a Project' - Evaluating Design Ideas, Processes and Solutions. These chosen learning approaches will assist a teacher to address the following key learning areas in the Australian Curriculum ('Curriculum') :
Year 3 - 4 'Design and Technologies': Knowledge and Understanding - Recognise the role of people in design and technologies occupations and explore factors, including sustainability that impact on the design of products, services and environments to meet community needs (ACTDEK010)’ .
‘Design and Technologies: Processes and Production Skills - Evaluate design ideas, processes and solutions based on criteria for success developed with guidance and including care for the environment (ACTDEP017)’ with the following elaborations:
With this in mind, General Capabilities of Literacy, may include but are not limited to Comprehending texts through listening, reading and viewing, Composing texts through speaking, writing and creating, Text knowledge, Word Knowledge and Visual Knowledge; Numeracy, may include but is not limited to interpreting statistical information; ICT, may include but is not limited to Communicating with ICT and Managing and operating ICT. Creative and Critical Thinking, may include but is not limited to Inquiring – identifying, exploring and organising information and ideas, Generating ideas, possibilities and actions, Reflecting on thinking and processes and Analysing, synthesising and evaluating reasoning and procedures.
These key learning areas enables the students to become more involved in the process of design ideas. This will engage the students to explore the impacts of various design ideas taking into consideration product requirements, sustainability and meeting the needs and services of the community.
