CREATING PROJECTS
'MAKING AN ECO-FRIENDLY COMPOSTING AREA OR WORM FARM AT SCHOOL' AND 'THE FUTURE OF RECYCLING AT SCHOOL'
SUSTAINABILITY IN THE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT - Composting and Recycling
Most schools in contemporary Australia have a tuckshop, sometimes these tuckshops will be available to students 5 days a week, this makes for a lot of food scraps (organic), bottles of drink (plastic and glass), food wrappers/boxes (paper) just from the tuckshop.
Now it is time for the students to get creative, below are some ideas which could be put in place to make sure that the school is a recycle friendly and renewable school environment.

Teaching Idea 5: Activity - School Compost or Worm Farm
This is going to take some time and will involve key personnel from the whole school environment. Click on A School Compost Heap or Worm Farm to read about how to create a Compost and Worm Farm in the school environment.
Teaching Idea 6: Activity - Where and how do we build a 'Virtual' Compost Area or Worm Farm at our School.
Students will evaluate, create design ideas, discuss processes and solutions with respect to creating the right environment for the School Compost area or Worm Farm. Students will need to investigate, examine and determine the best products to create their virtual School Compost Area or Worm Farm. Students will need to undertake an investigation as to how the school would design, create, build and maintain the Compost Area or Worm Farm. The students will need to discuss, brainstorm and collaborate their ideas and utilise their critical and creative thinking processes in order to reach success for their virtual School Compost Area or Worm Farm.
Maybe this virtual project could become a reality How to Build a Worm Farm or a Compost Area. This could formulate into a Assessment Task.

Teaching Idea 7: School Recycling Program - Recycling and Paper Recycling
Students will evaluate and create better design ideas, discuss new processes and solutions with respect to enforcing your schools already (hopefully) existing recycling program. Students will need to investigate, examine and determine whether the school is currently participating to the best of its' ability in a refuse recycling program. The students will collaborate their ideas and utilise their critical and creative thinking processes to determine some further recycling projects which could be implemented. This teaching idea could be utilised as an Assessment idea for the students to implement a new idea for recycling in the school environment.
A further Teaching Idea with respect to the recycling idea could be what can the school do with all the wasted paper from the classrooms each day. Have your ever thought of making your own paper bricks for the school gardens. Click on this link for ideas on How to Make a Paper Brickette which could ultimately be used in the schools garden.
