Roles of people in Design and TechnologiesIt is important that we all recognise the role of people in design and technologies occupations. There are many occupations in contemporary Australia which assist in our day to day living and meeting the needs of the community.
Technologies is defined as 'the materials, data, systems, components, tools and equipment used to create solutions for identified needs and opportunities, and the knowledge, understanding and skills used by people involved in the selection and use of these'. What are some of the roles to considerStudents will consider the roles of persons in design and technology occupations.
Teachers will be able to use key questioning to engage students with this task, for example, who are the people who work in the various industries as previously mentioned, Paper, Plastic, Glass and Metal. Students will need to activate their prior knowledge and engage with their critical thinking skills to strip this questioning back to the basics of the topic. For example, where does paper come from? How do we make paper in the first instance? This open ended questioning will allow the students to think below the surface of the inquiring questions. Teaching Idea 1: Resources Collaborative group discussion with respect to each of the design and technology areas with respect to Paper, Plastic, Glass and Metal'. A brainstorming activity can be undertaken, a Word Wall, a Wordle (using Wordle) or a Mind Map (using Bubbl.us) can be undertaken for the purposes of gaining student understanding and knowledge with respect to this topic. |
